On fascias, soffits & guttering

Fascias and soffits do two jobs. The functional job is protecting the roof timbers from weather and providing ventilation into the roof space. The cosmetic job is finishing the edge of the roof tidily - and because they run along the entire eaves of the house, they have a bigger impact on how a property looks than people realise.

If your fascias are rotten, peeling, or you've still got old painted timber that needs constant maintenance, replacing them with modern uPVC is one of the highest-impact, lowest-disruption improvements you can make to the outside of a house.

Why uPVC

Modern uPVC fascias and soffits don't rot, don't need painting, and stay looking smart for 20+ years. They're fitted with stainless steel fixings so there's no rust streaking, and they come in a proper range of colours and finishes - not just white. We can match traditional Georgian profiles, modern square profiles, and everything in between.

Colours and finishes

We work with the main UK manufacturers, so colour choice is genuinely wide: white, cream, anthracite grey, black, oak woodgrain, rosewood, and several others. For most Nottingham properties, white is the standard choice, but anthracite grey has become very popular for properties going for a more modern look. We'll show you samples when we quote.

New gutter systems

A new fascia is the right time to fit a new gutter system. Old cast iron and early plastic gutters often sag, leak at the joints, and discharge water in places it shouldn't go. Modern uPVC gutter systems are lightweight, joint-sealed properly, and easy to maintain. We fit them with the correct fall toward the downpipes so they drain cleanly.

Downpipes and outlets

We replace downpipes as part of the gutter work, route them to the right drainage outlets, and fit shoes at the bottom to direct water away from the building. Where downpipes connect to underground drainage, we make sure the connection is sealed properly.

Soffit ventilation

Roof spaces need ventilation. Without it, condensation builds up, timbers rot, and insulation suffers. Modern soffit boards either include ventilation strips or we fit ventilation grilles as part of the installation. Either way, the roof gets the airflow it needs.

Coordinating with re-roofs

If you're having a re-roof done, that's the natural time to replace fascias and gutters as well - the scaffold is already up, access is straightforward, and you get the whole exterior finished as one job. We'll happily quote fascia work as part of a re-roof package.

Questions we're asked

Straight answers to what people ask about fascias, soffits & guttering. If yours isn't here, ring and ask.

Do I need to replace the fascias, or can they just be painted?

If the timber is sound, painting is fine. If it is soft, split, or the paint keeps failing because damp is getting in from behind, replacement is the better long-term answer. We will tell you which after a proper look, including checking the rafter feet behind the fascia for rot.

What colours and finishes are available?

White is still the most common, but uPVC now comes in anthracite grey, black, rosewood and oak woodgrain finishes among others. We bring samples so you can hold them against the brickwork and windows before you decide.

Do you replace the soffits and guttering at the same time?

Usually, yes. Once the old fascia comes off it makes sense to renew the soffit behind it and hang new guttering on the new fascia, and it works out cheaper than doing them separately. We can also add or improve roof ventilation through the soffit while we are there.

Can you clean or repair my existing gutters instead?

Yes. Not every job needs new guttering: blocked outlets, sagging brackets and leaking joints can all be put right. If the gutters are fundamentally sound we will say so.

Is the quote really fixed?

Yes. You get a written, itemised quote covering access, materials, labour and waste, and it is free. The price only changes if the agreed specification changes, for example if we open up the roof and find rotten timbers that were not visible from the survey. If that happens we stop, show you photos, and agree the extra before carrying on.

What does the 10-year guarantee cover?

The workmanship: the way the roof was stripped, fixed, flashed and finished. If something we did fails within ten years, we come back and put it right. Manufacturer warranties on the materials sit on top of that. You get the guarantee in writing when the job is signed off.
